The Roe Effect
I’m not going to expound too much on the short film, The Roe Effect, which was written and directed by New Orleans native Kiel Adrian Scott. Suffice to say I was deeply moved and affected by the film, as well as the deft and nuanced directing. Scott could easily have been heavy handed given the multiple hot button topics, but the grace and gentleness with which he touches on each one is admirable and required a level of restraint that most directors are not interesting in utilizing. His two main leads, Nia Fairweather & Cher Santiago, are in step with his vision and deliver as much as Scott gives. If you are an HBO on Demand subscriber you can see the film (winner of the network’s Short Film Competition) through March 1.
