Overview
In 2018, Treasure Beach by Elegant Hotels—a 32-room beachfront property on Barbados’s west coast—commissioned two of my collage works as part of a hotel-wide redesign. Each guest room features a print of Juhanah, a piece from my My Girls series. Additionally, I was commissioned to create a new original large-scale collage, Celine, for the resort’s onsite restaurant.
The selection and commissioning process was done in collaboration with Treasure Beach’s in-house art consultants. All printing and framing were handled locally by Frame & Art Co.
Works Featured
Celine
A 52 x 40 inch commissioned work, Celine hangs near the dessert bar in the hotel’s restaurant. Built from more than 150 individually collaged elements, the figure gives a three-dimensional impression, evoking both the surrounding coastal landscape and honoring the staff and ambiance of the resort. It was created specifically with the dining space in mind.
Juhanah
Juhanah is part of my ongoing My Girls series—fictional portraits of women of color composed with painted paper fragments from earlier works. This piece was selected for placement in all 32 guest rooms. Its composition, situated here in a ground-floor suite bathroom, offers a personal moment of reflection and character amid the resort’s relaxed setting.
