Scrap Museum

Scrap Museum is a series of small-scale collages made on 8.5 x 11-inch copy paper, composed entirely from the leftover painted paper and mylar scraps of larger works. Created in 2016, these pieces reflect a key part of my studio practice: reusing fragments to generate new visual ideas. Each composition was made within a 30-minute window, embracing improvisation, failure, and immediacy as generative tools.

These collages are not final declarations, but rather sketches— studies in form, rhythm, and compositional abstraction. While still informed by my interest in the Black female form, Scrap Museum allowed me to push beyond figuration and explore how shape, negative space, and layering create tension or balance.

The title is literal: a gathering of scraps, elevated by the act of attention. Some pieces didn’t survive this experiment—they were reconfigured or discarded. What remains is a record of process and play.
