Written in the Body

Created for my first solo exhibition in Barbados, the collages that make up Written in the Body explore the emotional residue we carry and release through our physical form. Rooted in Black feminist portraiture, this series of intimate collages uses mixed media — acrylic, ink, and mylar — to evoke a sense of interiority pushing its way to the surface. Here, the body becomes not just a subject, but a site — a layered archive of transformation.

The works reflect an emotional terrain made visible, where layers of mark-making, abstraction, and suggestion form a language of feeling across the body. The Three Graces, composed on painted canvas, anchor the series with a quiet insistence, reimagining the conception of the muse through a contemporary and personal lens.

The exhibition opened in October 2016 at Frame & Art Co.
